Which Herbal Plants Are Good for Mental Health Treatment?

From the past few decades increased awareness about mental health and issues related to it has led medical research to find a cure for it. People are more inclined to look and opt for natural and herbal cures for their mental health problems. The herbs are being used as supplements and becoming widely popular due to the benefits that are being seen by their usage. Their therapeutic qualities are what helps to cure anxiety, depression, etc. They are considered to be an effective alternative to add medicine. Here are some of the herbal plants that are being widely used due to their fruitful results:

St. John’s Wort:

St. John’s wort is also called Hypericum perforate. This plant has been used for mental health treatment for almost a hundred years and is found to be effective. It is a potent antidepressant if the person has early symptoms of depression, whereas, it does not have any long-term effects and should not be used in the severe case of depression. If the herb is used alongside the other antidepressants it may reduce the effectiveness of conventional medicine and is more likely to have side-effects. Just like any other medication, it should not be used without consultation of your doctor because the herb might be effective for some people or might not benefits others, depending upon the severity of depression.

Chamomile:

Chamomile is an herb that comes from the plant ‘Matric aria ricotta’ and has found to be helpful in controlling the symptoms of anxiety and depression. It is found to be more helpful than the placebo effect. However, the other health benefits and likewise qualities of the herb are yet to be explored.

Ginseng:

Chinese practitioners have been using ginseng plants for thousands of years to help people in improving their mental health by enhancing their mental clarity, energy and is effective in reducing the symptoms of depression. This supplement comes from gnarled roots of Asian, American, Siberian, and Eleuthero ginseng plants, all of which are different and have different ingredients. Many people use it to induce positive feelings and motivation that has been overshadowed by depression. However, further research is being done to fully explore the health benefits of the ginseng plant.

Lavender:

Lavender is very famous and is widely used for its therapeutic benefits. People use lavender oil for relaxation, reducing anxiety and it helps to ease muscular pain caused by stress. Its soothing effects help to cure insomnia and its usage is beneficial for sound sleep. Mostly, doctors recommend lavender oil for people going through depression caused by stress.

5-HTP:

5-HTP is also known as 5-hydroxytryptophan. It is found to use in regulating and improving the levels of serotonin in the brain; it is a hormone that helps elevate a person’s mood. However, the excess of the 5-HTP can be harmful for the user and its intake should be kept limited or as per the prescription from an expert.

CBD Oil:

CBD oil is undoubtedly a complete package that helps to cure all the medical and psychological disorders not just for humans but also for animals. CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant. Hemp seeds contain polyphenols, which are integral to keep a human brain healthy and active. It is beneficial for people trying to recover from drug addiction. The brain needs lots of fatty acids to function properly and hemp oil has an ample amount of them which makes it advantageous for our mental health. Moreover, it has found to be effective for a severe mental disorder like Alzheimer’s, Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, PTSD or ADHD. It improves memory and cognitive ability. Like other herbs, the research about CBD oil is still in infancy and the full benefits are yet to be explored.

Herbs are a potent cure for your mental health. However, they must be taken with care. Their intake should be monitored by your doctor and should not be used in excess. Moreover, do not use any of these on your own. If you are having severe signs of depression or any other serious symptoms of mental health issues, consult your doctor instantly instead of relying on temporary self-medication. Your mental health should always be your priority. A happy and healthy mind is what you need to be a successful, happy and loving person.
