How to Use the Optimal Grow Space for Your Grow Box

Posted

One of the great things about a small, compact grow box is that you can pursue hydroponic gardening in a smaller space. To create an optimal space design for your grow box, check out some of these handy tips for initial planning and installation.

Consider Power Sources

Although some growers use generators or other off-the-grid power sources, a lot of small grow boxes plug into larger electricity grids. Look for where wall outlets are in any interior space to make sure your box will have a handy source of energy for every crop cycle.

Think About Access

Another issue is that you're going to have to have access to your grow box to maintain plants. You may have an optimal space snuggled against a wall, or tucked under a piece of furniture, but it can be more trouble than it's worth to install there, because you won't have space you need to open doors or other areas of the box to change nutrients, provide plants with additional water, or change pH value or other environmental factors. You're going to be reaching into your grow box many times, so work that into your initial plan.

Deal with High-Traffic Scenarios

Oftentimes, growers may install a grow box where people live or work. That means plants can cohabitate with a lot of people and animals.

Evaluate high-traffic situations and make sure the boxes are not going to be in the way where they can be messed with. A lot of small closed grow boxes have good security designs like lock and key systems, but it's still a good idea to restrict access to minimize the chances that children and pets or others will tamper with a hydroponics system over time.

Floorstanding or Shelf Systems

In some cases, you can free up more space and get an optimal space design by putting a small grow box up on a shelf or on top of other furniture. Always check out the weight rating and the entire weight load of the system before trying to do these structural designs. It's no use trying to create a sophisticated space design, only to have the box crashing down later.
