Outdoor Space Maintenance Tips: Keeping Your Patios Neat And Clean All Year Long

Posted by

Indoor home maintenance is crucial for humans’ well-being and is mandatory if you want to live a long and comfortable life. However, most people underestimate the importance of keeping their outdoors neat. The majority of problems that may occur in your home come from outside. Decluttering and keeping your outdoor space neat will not only improve the aesthetics of your home but will contribute to its functionality as well. Here, we have prepared a couple of useful tips for maintaining your patio specifically. Stay tuned.

Sweep the Leaves

Keeping leaves all over your patio may be a pleasant autumn view, but it will cause you a couple of headaches. If your patio is wooden, the leaves can contribute to its decay; if the leaves are colored, they can leave stains; when wet, they pose a great hazard. So, do not allow seedpods, leaves, tree blossoms, and other organic matter to pile up on your patio. At times, leaf piles may harbor pests and insects that may penetrate your home. Sweeping your patios with a high-quality straw broom or removing leaves with a leaf blower will certainly benefit you.

Pro Tip: Channel Drains

Channel drains, which are also known as trenches, are hardscape applications normally used to prevent water from penetrating into specific areas such as your garage, pool, or home. To that end, the channel drain is best applied in spaces such as patios, driveways, walkways, and doorways. However, these should not be applied in lawn areas because of their complex channel system, which makes them pop up or sink too low when they are installed directly into the ground. With channel drains, you will make sure that your patio will be dry and will not cause your outdoor space to flood.

Cleaning Stubborn Stains

Rust from patio furniture leaves tannins, and oils from the grill can stain your patio. Yet, do not worry, most of these stains can be easily rubbed away with a dash of scouring. You can make your own cleaner to spot and treat the stains. All you need to do is use 4 liters of warm water mixed with 250 ml of trisodium phosphate, or TSP substitute, and scrub the spots well with a stiff-bristled brush. You can also use this method to give your patio an annual scrub.

Eliminate Rust

Nothing can ruin the visual appeal of your patio as much as ugly orange rust stains can. Now, cheer up, you do not have to learn how to live with them since there is an effective solution for them as well. You can remove rust stains from your patio by sprinkling it with some cement powder and scrubbing it with flagstone. This way, you will remove the stains and have a perfectly clean patio, free from rust stains.

Keeping your outdoors as clean as your indoors will contribute to the aesthetics of your home and say a lot about you as the owner. Hence, do not let your outdoors be too cluttered or stained so that you have difficulties cleaning the mess up.
