How To Properly Install LED String Lights Outdoor

Posted

Whether it's an outdoor dinner, wedding, or any other outdoor event, they need proper lighting. If the event is held in the morning, then sunlight acts as natural lighting, but adequate lighting is a must if it's held at night. When holding an event at our homes, we take care of every detail so nothing can go wrong. Lighting happens to be one of the most important ones, as improper lighting can ruin an otherwise perfect event. Putting up lights can come across as being tricky; that's why many people opt for outside help when putting up the lighting. In reality, it's not that hard to put up one's lights and can be done by nearly anyone if they know what they are doing. This article will look at what you need to know before you install your lights and how to properly and safely install them.

What to know before you start installing your lights?

Safety measures

The first and most important thing to take care of is your safety; having the proper equipment and safety measures is a must. Always make sure the lights aren't faulty or broken with the lights themselves. Broken lights can create many hazards. Also, make sure to have safe lights to use outside; not all lights are. Besides the lights, all your cords and ladders should also be suitable to be used outside, and it's also better for the ladder to be an adequate size as having a ladder that is too small can be a safety hazard. When installing lights for a function, it's always important to account for the safety of the guests; the LED lights or the electrical plugs being used must be above the ground. This prevents people from tripping on them or accidentally breaking them.

Outdoor equipment

Having proper outdoor equipment and lights is essential because things designed to be used outside are generally weatherproof and will be much more resistant, and are ultimately much safer. This is easy to look at as most lights suitable for outdoor weather would tell that they are suitable for outdoors. Also, having other electrical equipment that can be used outdoors is important; this equipment can be found in any electrical parts store.

How and where to install the lights

When installing the LED lights, it's important to know where to hang them or what to hang them from. The first thing to know is your location, as that decides where the LED lights will go. In an outdoor event at your house, you can use many things to your advantage, for example, the exterior of the house and any trees. The most important thing is that you must have enough space and lights to have the whole place lit up and the lights to be at a good enough level.

Having any kinds of high walls, pillars, or trees where you need to set up the LED lights is ideal as they can act as support for the lights; lights can easily be hung here as putting up tacks or nails helps the lights stay up. When using the nails, make sure to either twist 2 strips of light and put the nail between them or hang the strip of light around the nail, so the wire doesn't get damaged. In the scenario where you don't have a place to use the nails, you can use any kind of removable pole or support. It is recommended to have the lights above the head, but if that is not possible, it still works; the most important thing is that the lights do not disturb anyone or become a safety hazard.

When installing the lights, make sure that the nails are well set within the wall and that the wire doesn't fall off.

Taking off the lights

Once done using the lights, the lights must be removed and kept for later uses, so the wire does not get damaged or worn. When removing the lights, the same safety precautions should be followed. Make sure that when you are removing the lights, they are not plugged into the power. When removing the nails or the light, make sure you don't damage the wire or break the bulbs so they can be used for a future event or occasion. Other than that, removing the lights requires the same equipment and precautions.
