Hydroponics Doppelgangers: Why Your Garden Might Not Look Like Your Neighbor’s

Hydroponics Doppelgangers: Why Your Garden Might Not Look Like Your Neighbor’s

We’ve often said that every kind of hydroponics project is different, but sometimes, you do see those situations where two individual growers have set up operations that look quite a bit like. This is often a deliberate plan between two friends or associates to try to ‘mirror’ the same hydroponics process and look at the results. However, even when you’d think that identical or nearly identical hydroponics systems would grow similar kinds of plants, many times, you’d be more than a little wrong.

Location, Location, Location

One of the most obvious differences that can happen between two identically set up hydroponic systems is that different environments and atmospheres can change results. Even in hydroponics, where plants are grown indoors or in greenhouses, the local climate and general atmosphere can have a lot to do with outcome. For example, outside temperatures can tend to skew the specific conditions of hydroponics reservoirs and other part of a grow box or grow room set up. Another important issue is pests: yes, hydroponics growers do have to contend with pests, which often enter relatively sealed systems through vents or air ducts. Many greenhouse growers are accustomed to dealing with certain kinds of small insects, and this is one kind of wild card that can make a difference depending on where growers are located.

Other Factors

Even in nearly identical greenhouses that are just down the road from each other, different scenarios can have a big impact on plant results. Bacteria like pythium could invade one grow room, and not another, based on levels of sanitation, plant debris in a grow space, or other factors – and to be sure, a lot of professional and experienced growers will tell you that there is some element of luck involved as well.

For more on how to set up the best grow rooms in any kind of conditions, ask your hydroponics retailer what kinds of new equipment are available to help you ensure a great outcome.
