Why is CBD emerging in the skincare industry?

Posted

A TBC (The Benchmarking Company) survey, a consumer research firm, reveals that people of the United States have become more interested in CBD-based skincare products from Lazarus Naturals. From 25% in 2019, the number of CBD-skin care product users has increased to 37% in the United States, TBC reports.

The co-founder of TBC, Denise Herich, mentions, "It's clear that the consumer is more aware of CBD beauty products, more knowledgeable about the benefits of this ingredient, and more willing to try products containing CBD and hemp than they were just two years ago. Beauty consumers are becoming experimental in their CBD product usage, trying not only skincare but also hair care products containing CBD and other non-traditional products now containing CBD such as shaving creams, makeup, or supplements."

But what is the reason behind this driving force? What is making CBD one of the most loved ingredients in skincare products? The article answers it all.

CBD Based Skincare Products

CBD now has a place in almost every product, including your face cream and serum. Here are some reasons most people love this new ingredient in their skincare routine.

  • The Acne Fighting Abilities of CBD

You can find CBD in several anti-acne products. Cannabidiol's possible actions on oil production make it an ideal anti-acne ingredient. A board-certified dermatologist explains that oil-producing sebaceous glands are full of CB2 receptors. So, CBD binds with these CB2 receptors to regulate sebum production in cells.

Another possible way CBD might reduce your acne is through its ability to fight gram-positive bacterias. Dr. Jacknin explains that these bacterias are responsible for acne. She also points towards a 2019 research ( organized in collaboration with Botnix pharmaceuticals) that revealed CBD topicals might kill a variety of gram-positive bacterias.

  • The Anti Aging Effects of CBD

Being a plant product, the antioxidant properties of CBD is not surprising. A CBD anti-aging cream might fight the free radicals in the body ( responsible for visible aging signs) to diminish inflammation, reducing skin dullness, wrinkles, and rosy skin tone.

CBD is not the only antioxidant ingredient that claims to have anti-aging effects. However, it is one of the few natural antioxidant compounds. Also, unlike most other antioxidants, its benefit is widespread and not limited to aging only.

  • Its Ability to Treat Eczema and Psoriasis

One of the most talked-about properties of CBD is its anti-inflammatory property. Dr. Robert Dellavalle, an epidemiology professor at Colorado School of Public Health, explains that CBD works with the receptors to reduce the body's inflammatory responses by "decreasing the interleukins, which are chemicals that are like the immune system's fire alarm that calls the fire department in an emergency. CBD may decrease the loudness of that fire alarm."

It reduces redness in the skin caused by diseases, such as psoriasis and eczema. Moreover, the moisturizing property of CBD might effectively calm down itching.

These three possible abilities of CBD are the critical driving force of the CBD market.

CBD for Hair

Another reason most people are keen to add CBD in their skincare routine is their possible effects on damaged hair. Here are some of them.

  • CBD For Hair Growth

Most people face the issue of slow hair growth. It sometimes results in thin hair and bald spots. Various factors, such as chemical deposits, lack of nutrients, and dandruff, are responsible for slow hair growth.

A recent study on the effects of Exo and endocannabinoids on the growth of human hair follicle show that massaging your scalp with CBD oil reduces scalp dryness, promote nutrient absorption, and boosts hair growth. Moreover, researchers believe that CBD offers omega fatty acids that nourish the cuticles and seal the moisture in the hair.

  • CBD For Damaged Scalp

The scalp also goes through inflammation. Sometimes inflammation turns to patchy flaking on skin that causes irritation and premature baldness in extreme cases. This inflammation also affects hair growth.

The endocannabinoid receptors in the scalp work with CBD to reduce inflammation and decrease hair loss. Moreover, the possible ability of CBD to stimulate natural sebum in the scalp reduces dryness and dandruff in the scalp.

CBD oil also has cleansing properties that discard unwanted particles and deposits on the scalp and boost hair growth.

  • CBD For Hair Loss

Hair loss becomes a problem when the rate of hair loss is less than the rate of hair growth. Some of the most common factors responsible for hair loss are stress and hormonal disbalance ( particularly DHT hormone). Moreover, during pregnancy and menopause, a woman goes through extreme fluctuation of hormones, increasing hair loss.

While several external hair loss treatments are available, most of them are ineffective in the long term. Here CBD oil might help you. The ability of CBD to interact with receptors in the body and regulate hormones might help in reducing hair loss.

So, CBD might become a part of your overall care routine.

Some Other Driving Forces

Some other reasons behind the emerging use of CBD in Skin Care are:

  • CBD is Non-psychoactive

Manufacturers extract CBD from industrial hemp plants. This plant has either no THC or a trace amount of THC ( the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana). According to legal norms, most countries grow hemp plants in particular ways to control the amount of THC.

THC is dominantly present in the leaves of Cannabis Sativa plants and not in roots. Thus, your CBD skincare product will not make you psychoactive. Also, skincare products involve CBD oil manufactured from hemp seed. Make sure you check the amount of THC and CBD carefully before buying any product.

  • CBD is Legal

The farm bill, 2018, distinguished the Cannabis Sativa plant into two types, hemp and marijuana. Hemp contains THC in low amounts and is legal. On the other hand, marijuana is illegal as it has more THC.

To be precise, the legal amount of THC in hemp differs in different countries. For instance, hemp is only legal in the US if it contains less than0.3% of THC. This legal amount is 0.2% in Canada and Europe, 0.5-1.0% in Australia, around 1.5% in India.

Now, you know why the use of CBD is continuously growing in every sector, particularly skincare.

Conclusion

Most experts believe that the action of CBD on the endocannabinoid system is a breakthrough. The cannabinoids react with the receptors to give several possible effects: anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anti-acne. That is why people love CBD, and manufacturers produce new CBD skincare products every day.
